Ushers & Welcoming Team

As a member of the Usher and Welcome Team, you will be taking part in the vitally important ministry of hospitality. You will help ensure that people receive a warm welcome anytime they join us at St. James for a social function or worship service.

Music / Choir

Vestry Liaison: Father Paul
As a member of the Choir, you will be a part of those leading our worship service in song and praise. This can take the form of the Adult Choir, Hand Bells, Youth Choristers or Children’s Choir. Let us make a joyful noise unto the Lord.

Lay Reader/Chalice Bearers
Contact: Father Paul
Vestry Liaison: Father Paul
As a Lay Reader or Chalice Bearer, you take part in leading worship. As Lay Reader, you will read the appointed lessons for the day as well as the Prayers of the People. As a Chalice Bearer, you will assist Fr. Paul at the altar in the distribution of the Holy Sacraments. You may take part in one or both of these ministries.

Acolytes and Jr. Acolytes

As an Acolyte, you will take part in leading Worship. Your duties include assisting Fr. Paul at the altar, leading the procession and recession, and helping with Children’s Chapel.

Altar Guild

As a member of the Altar Guild, you will be part of a faithful team dedicated to the preparation of the altar for all Sunday Services as well as other feast and fast days. You will also be involved in caring for the vestments and altar supplies.

Evangelism

The Great Commission of our Lord was to go into all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. As part of the Evangelism Team, you will be working to educate the congregation on the central role of evangelism in our Christian faith. You will work to spread the Good News of Christ and the ministry of St. James Church throughout our community, inviting people to join us on our journey of life and faith.

Stewardship

As part of the Stewardship Team, you will be involved in a comprehensive program to educate and call the parish to action in regards to stewardship of Time, Talent and Treasure.

Planned Giving / Endowment Program

St. James’ Church is fast approaching its 150th anniversary part of the reason for the longevity of the parish is the strong financial foundation. The Planned Giving and Endowment Program Team works to ensure a strong financial present and future for St. James. A foundation which will strengthen ministry for the next 150 years.

Facilities and Grounds

One of the great blessings of St. James’ Church is our beautiful grounds and buildings. As part of the Facilities and Grounds Team, you will work with the chairperson to ensure our grounds and buildings remain in their beautiful and inviting condition.

Parish Life

As part of the Parish Life Team, you will be involved in parish event planning. These activities include, but are not limited to, the Fall Festival, Thanksgiving Dinner at St. James’, St. James’ Day, the Easter Day Reception, and St. James’ Weekend at All Saints’ Center, Foyer Groups. The goal is to incorporate the whole body of St. James’ in fun, social and community building events.

Women of the Church

The Women of the Church gather weekly throughout the year for a time of both work and fellowship with the focus on two yearly fundraising events: The Christmas Boutique and the Spring Yard, Plant and Bake Sale. Through these two events, the women raise thousands of dollars which is donated to various local charitable organizations.

Outreach

As part of the Outreach Team, you will be involved in a “hands on” approach to enflesh the presence of Christ to the least and the lost of our world. You will work as part of a team leading our Parish, both locally and globally, in activities to spread the love of Christ to the world. This work includes events such as the Habitat for Humanity, Relay for Life, Mission Trips, HOST House, Home of the Innocents, as well as gathering clothing and food items.

Christian Education / Formation for Adults

It is vitally important for both our personal and corporate well being to continue our life long journey of formation in our faith. This group oversees the adult education classes, catechumenate preparation, bible study groups and the 8th Day Class.

Elementary Christian Formation, Children’s Chapel and Nursery

As part of the Elementary Christian Formation, Children’s Chapel and Nursery Team, you will be working to help form our youngest members in the faith. You will take part in nourishing the soil in which they will continue to grow. Caring for our young people is a vitally important ministry for the present and future health of not only our parish but our world.

Teen Christian Formation and Youth Group

As part of the Teen Christian Formation and Youth Group Team, you will be involved in the Christian formation of our young people. This is a vitally important ministry in which you will walk with our youth to prepare them as they journey to adulthood and move into leadership roles both in our community and our parish.

Health Ministry

As part of the Health Ministry Team, your goal is to work in the congregation to promote health and prevent disease through a variety of services that combine faith and spirituality with nursing skills and knowledge. The Role of the parish nurse is a health educator, health counselor, resource person and patient advocate.

Pastoral Care and Prayer Chain

As part of the Pastoral Care and Prayer Chain Team, you will be involved with ministering to the specific needs of those in our parish family. This is to make real our Lord’s instruction to care for the sick and hurting. You will be involved by making home visits, phone calls, writing notes, assisting in prayer and the Eucharistic ministry.
